ALLOCATE reopens

came back from overseas and checked my allocate (before i forget) >.<

most of my lectures are auto-allocated but no clashes ^^
i'm hoping that i got tuesday as a day off so i can get 2 days off i a week (friday im always free)

hopefully i don't get sent to rural during then to do my placements

Also, on the subject of honours, anyone know what Japanese honours is like?

if ur thinking of doing honours, choose whether u wanna focus on translation (from lvl 1, impossible without exchange), linguistics (applied or socio) or culture. then, make sure u has at least 70% average in japanese. u hafta take a compulsory research subject to be able to do honours in jap

the honours year you need to complete a language stream, culture/linguistics/translation units and attend mandatory seminars and an honours subject ALL language students need to do

the aim of honours is to prepare an honours thesis, which will lead to further post-grad study (Masters or phD)

u can also do ur honours part-time over two years, and do ur language section overseas (what i wanna do :3)

Hmm. I'd wanna focus on translation - basically I wanna do honours so I can do a Masters of Translation, but a problem is that I'm starting JPL level 3 this year and I dunno, I assume you have to have completed all the levels before you start a Masters, hence I wanna do honours to cover that. So like 3&4 this year, 5&6 Kanazawa trip (If I can go on that, oh please), 7&8 third year, and 9&10 honours, possibly 9&10 and 11&12 in honours - doing honours for 2yrs, one year on exchange, sounds awesome, might do that too...

But can I focus on translation in my honours year if I'll be doing 9&10 that year? And what do you mean by a language stream? Is that basically doing JPL 9&10 or whatever? And would the honours thesis for translation involve actually translating something, or writing a thesis about translation theories and practices (because if so, sigh)?

yeah, a language stream means doing jap 9/10

uve got it well planned, do it that way and ull have no probs :3

and ur thesis is a critical review of ur translation

This reminds me - to do Japanese as a major you apparently need six JPL units and two JPS... does it HAVE to be this way? Like, cannot do eight JPL units... I think? @@

And is the requirement to get into honours only to get distinction higher average in your major thingy? I'm quite confused.

to get into honours you need to have 70% average in your chosen major

and yeah, my understanding is you need two non language stream subjects to complete a major, but u can do the 'reading skills' classes, coz they count

Still trying to figure out how I can fix that 9-5 day. I could switch things around but that would involve a five day week, I think, and probably skipping both my english lectures - I mean I could listen online of course but I dunno, doesn't seem wise, especially since I've decided to be a good studier person and actually attend everything I can this year...

If there is but one thing I can advise someone doing English subjects, it's to attend every lecture if you can manage it (despite the usual boring nature of the lectures) because the English faculty is the worst among all of them at doing anything online. Recorded lectures are almost unheard of ( Professor Dilnot: "You can record lectures and put them on the internet?") because apparently to be part of the Literature department you need to have ZERO skills in computing.

Also, Yano is fun, and I will ALWAYS love her for bringing up the topic of pandas in an oral test. WIN.

Eh I'll go to the first few and if they don't record, then i'll have to suck it up XD My other English subjects were recorded, i think, but they were both under Rebecca (who is cool) and this one is ENH1010 so we'll see. *sigh*

And hopefully I will like Yano-sensei too XD

Ah, yes, Rebecca is the only one I have encountered to actually record leccies. You're fortunate to have had her ^_^ She has her own fanclub, according to Celiney... ENH1010 you have far less chance of recorded lectures and FAR greater chance of boredom in your lectures (lemme know when you have your booklist for that, because I might have books to sell ya if you don't wanna pay full price at the bookshop). I wish you luck in enduring Alan Dilnot's monotonous but every so often awakeningly LOUD voice, and Peter Groves' powerpoint presentations which he passes through too quickly for you to be able to take all notes. AND he doesn't upload them.
