第一章:始め (Chapter 1: A Beginning)

A/N: Even though this fic is supposed to take place mainly in the Kaou host-club, this chapter is set at University, and serves more as a prologue. You guys will have to wait 'til Chapter 2 for Pi and Ryou! But don't worry, there will be a little bit of Akame in here to tide you over~~! Also, my AibaxEita thing, I believe, is the first time this has been attempted, so I hope it works out. Oh, I also use some Japanese in this, but most of it is pretty easy to work out what it means (I study Jap, and cant be bothered translating it~!) XD Twiggy-san

Through the window of the lecture theatre, if one was bored enough to bother checking, could be seen the soft pink of the sakura blossoms which still covered the great tree in the middle of campus, even though spring was quickly coming to a close. The sakura, long considered by the Japanese to be the symbol of both new life and inevitable death, did nothing to cheer up the mood of the sleepy freshman who was too preoccupied to attend to the rather dry lecture on German grammar his sensei was in the middle of giving.

Returning to doodling into his notebook, Waseda Daigaku freshman Kamenashi Kazuya sighed to himself, receiving a concerned look from his two friends, Aiba Hiroki and Sasaki Nozomi. "How exactly did this happen?" he thought to himself in despair, "I should have been better prepared, I never should of let something like this happen."

"Kamenashi-kun," his German sensei called out from the lectern, "could you please come to the front of the class and conjugate this verb?"

Kame stared back, blinking, brought suddenly out of the world of his troubled thoughts and back to the reality of a liberal arts student. "Anou…" he stammered, looking at his friends for reassurance, or even help, "I'm sorry, sensei, I don't know how to…" In an attempt to win his sensei over, Kame shot him one of his patented cheeky grins.

The German sensei, however, was clearly not impressed. "Kamenashi-kun, you have been a student here for a month now, I think it's fair to say this kind of behaviour is unacceptable."

"Hai," Kame quipped, "I'm sorry, I'll try better next time."

"Ba~ka," Aiba muttered under his breath, causing Sasaki to giggle. Kame, on the other hand, was not impressed, and shot his friend an angry glance.

"I don't need you teasing me at a time like this," Kame thought to himself, "can't you guys see I'm in serious trouble??"

For the rest of the lesson, Kame tried his very best to pay attention, and was even able to answer a few more questions from the sensei, even though he was no match for Aiba's almost encyclopedic knowledge of German (he could, however, feel superior to Sasaki, who was truly terrible). Every now and then, however, his mind would wander to his bigger problems, and all he could do was scratch his head, shove his hands into his pockets and count the five yen coins he had in the pocket without a hole or continue his doodle of baseball players.

Finally, the minute hand of the clock on the wall pointed to 12, signaling to the stressed out language students that it was time for lunch. "Lunchtime ka?" Kame muttered to himself, "how is that supposed to fix up my problem?"

"Eeto ne," Sasaki chirped up as she threw her (barely touched) German textbook into her designer book bag, "Kame-chan, what problem would that be?"

"Yabai~"

Aiba pulled his glasses off and turned to look at Kame as well, "Yeah, just what is wrong with you today? You haven't been your usual stupid self… except when you mouthed off at the sensei, of course."

Kame threw Aiba a 'watch what you're saying" stare, then sighed. "I guess it would be best to come clear to my friends, then…"

Turning up his genki level, Kame jumped up onto his chair, threw the two of them a peace sign and yelled at the top of his voice, "I'm completely BRO~KE~!"

Sasaki and Aiba shared a brief look of surprise, and then started laughing to themselves wildly. "That's all Kame-chan?" Sasaki gasped between giggle fits, "I thought maybe you'd broken up with your girlfriend or something!"

"Gir-girlfriend?" Kame gulped, "Like I'd be that lucky…"

"Yeah, this guy's like totally girlfriend free, Sasaki-chan" Aiba laughed, "I bet he's still a virgin too!"

"Urusai~! Aiba no BAKA~!" Kame yelled, jumping from the chair and grabbing Aiba by the cuff of his shirt, reducing the other boy into even more fits of laughter. The three of them filed out of the lecture hall and made their way towards the cafeteria, with Aiba and Kame fighting each other all the way and Sasaki watching halfway between amusement and concern.

Upon reaching the cafeteria, the three freshman found themselves faced with a pack of squealing girls (some of whom were even still high schoolers, and more shocking still was the presence of a few older women), most of whom were waving love-heart shaped banners and chanting 'Suki da yo" over and over again.

"What's up with these guys?" Kame asked Sasaki, who shook her head in confusion. "Why are they making such a ruckus? I'm hungry dammit!"

Aiba snickered to himself, "If you're broke, how did you plan on eating anyways?"

"Urusai~"

Suddenly one of the girls pointed directly at where Kame, Aiba and Sasaki were standing, and screeched in a shrill voice, "HE'S OVER THERE!"

Kame pointed at himself in confusion, "Anou sa… do you mean me?" Aiba slapped him across the head then pointed behind Kame.

Decending the stairs into the cafeteria was a rather handsome sempai. Taller than Kame, and with broad shoulders and slightly wild hair, he was wearing a casual white T and a pair of fashionable jeans. He had a look of complete and utter boredom spread across his face. However, upon noticing the swarm of girls, his eyes brightened, and he began to literally strut the short distance from the stairwell into the cafeteria.

Aiba rolled his eyes slightly, and turned away, and Sasaki, jumping out of the way of a mad swarm of fangirls, pulled at Kame to come along too. Kame, however, was not able to move a single muscle in his body. There was something about the senpai's incredible presence that rang nostalgically through his mind, causing his heart to start to beat faster and faster.

"Eeeh~" he muttered to himself, "he reminds me of… Domoto-sempai?"

Domoto-senpai, a name Kame had feverishly tried to erase from his mind since he left his small hometown near Sendai and traveled all the way to Tokyo to attend university. Domoto-sempai, the star player of the baseball team (well, the star player before Kame inherited the title in his final year at school), who had walked in the same manner, with the same come hither look placed upon his visage.

Kame shook his head in an attempt to clear it, "No, no, no!" he began to chant to himself, "Domoto-senpai is gone, don't think about him… anou, anou, anou… boobs, yeah, I like boobs :P" Kame desperately rubbed at his eyes, and then grabbed Sasaki, who was still standing next to him, by the waist and gave her a hug.

"You okay there?" he asked her sweetly. She blushed, and then nodded.

"Oi, hora, you two," Aiba called from where he had found a free table, "get over here before you get trampled by those morons~!"

Still slightly in a daze, Kame pulled Sasaki towards the table where Aiba had already taken a seat besides another senpai of theirs, and also the head of their dorm, Eita. As Kame and Sasaki sat down, Eita-senpai gave the two of them a curt nod of appreciation, then returned to the ramen he had been in the middle of devouring.

At the sight of his senpai's delicious looking lunch, Kame's stomach began to rumble loudly, and all thought of the handsome senpai, or of Domoto, were immediately erased as the problem of him being broke came sharply to the forefront of his mind. "Kusa, I'm so damn hungry…" he groaned.

Aiba shook his head in pity, then stood up from the table in order to go and bring the three of them lunch. "I want curry~!" Kame called after him, but Aiba ostensibly ignored him.

Eita-senpai finished slurping up the last of his ramen, and then gave Kame a quizzical look. "Are you saying that you don't have any money? Don't your parents support you?"

"Ahahaha," Kame laughed nervously, "we aren't very rich, and so they can only send me a small amount each month. I spent it all on rent, textbooks and stuff… I needed new clothes as you can see," Kame plucked at his slightly frayed shirt and jeans, "so it's all gone already."

Eita sniffed slightly, "Then get a job."

Sasaki shook her head, "Kame-chan is so busy studying that he hasn't got time for a part-time job though."

Kame shrugged, "Maybe senpai is right… I should go and find a job…"

The more Kame thought about it, the more it sounded like a good idea.

***

After classes had finished, Kame returned to the dorm with his two friends (and Eita-senpai who tagged along for the ride) where they planned to study German together in Kame's room and eat a meal of nabe, which Aiba had decided to cook for them.

Upon arriving at the dorm, the four students found themselves once again faced with the swarm of girls, even though it was much smaller now. Eita pushed his way through the crowd, yelling loudly for them to be quiet and respect the surrounding neighbourhood, and the three freshmen followed along in his wake, occasionally being jostled by the mad fangirls. The students pushed their way into the lobby of the dorm, and headed straight for the elevator.

"Mattaku," Aiba vented once they were in the elevator heading towards the fourth floor, "what is UP with those girls anyway?"

Eita snorted to himself, "I'm surprised you haven't run into them yet, considering you live here at my dorm. You see, supposedly the hottest guy in the whole of Waseda lives here."

Kame turned quickly towards Eita, accidentally knocking Sasaki into Aiba with his backpack, "Do you mean that really cool looking senpai from before?"

"Cool, huh?" Eita drawled coolly, "I dunno 'bout that. But yeah, that guy from before… he's the object of those mad girl's attention. He's a third year like me, studying Linguistics and English. His name is Akanishi Jin."

"Akanishi… Jin-senpai…" Kame noted softly.

"Eh, what's with that dokidoki tone Kame?" Aiba snickered, "got a crush on him or something?"

Kame shook his head violently, "N-n-n-no way~! It's not like I'm gay or anything!"

Sasaki grabbed Kame around the waist and pouted at Aiba, "That's right! Just because Kame hasn't had a girlfriend, doesn't mean he doesn't like girls! Right, Kame-chan!"

"Y-yeah, of course I like girls. 'Specially if they've got huge boobs!"

SLAP!!

"Kame-chan no BAKA~!" Sasaki cried out, giving Kame an incredibly intense stare. Aiba started to laugh to himself, causing Eita to roll his eyes.

The elevator finally reached its destination, and the doors opened slowly. The four of them piled out, all but Eita-senpai chatting and laughing to themselves lively. Every now and then they would bump into other students with whom they shared the dorm, and they would always stop and say hi.

Turning a corner, they ran into the quiet Korean exchange student, Kim Jaejoong, who was sitting outside Aiba's room waiting for the three of them to return. Even though Jaejoong was technically their senpai, the three first years had quickly befriended him as he had been too shy to get to know his classmates, and had appeared very lonely.

"Annyeong Kim-senpai," Kame called out in his really bad Korean, "what's up?"

"Anou," Jaejoong mumbled, "calling me Jaejoong… is fine…"

Aiba clapped Jaejoong on the shoulder as he quickly raced into his room in order to grab his nabe pot. Coming back out, Aiba signaled to the rest of them that it was okay to continue to Kame's room, which was down the corridor a little ways, and around another corner. As the four younger students walked down said corridor, Eita decided he had had enough of his kouhais, and turned on his heel to go and visit the Dorm's cafeteria.

Upon reaching Kame's room, the four cleared away all the loose clothes, books and miscellaneous junk that Kame had left lying around practically everywhere, in order to make room for a small table and the nabe pot. As Aiba prepared their dinner, Sasaki and Kame began studying their German, chatting to each other awkwardly in the unfamiliar language, as Jaejoong sat and watched passively, occasionally muttering something to himself in Korean.

Once the nabe was ready, the four of them sat around the table and filled their bowls with rice. "Itadakima~su" Kame chirped happily, absolutely joyous that he didn't need to worry about buying himself dinner that night.

Later that night, at around 1am in fact, after the others had all left, Kame lay on his bed, flicking absently through a linguistics textbook he was supposed to have read by tomorrow morning's class. However, the young man was unable to concentrate on the rather tedious chapter on phonetics, as his mind kept on returning, not to his money problems, but to the sight of Akanishi-senpai descending those stairs in the cafeteria.

Sure, the guy had walked around with an irritatingly cocky attitude, but in a way, that was kind of cool. Kame shook his head slightly, trying to rid the image of Akanishi from his head, but it was almost as if his image had been burned into his retinas. Kame had seen the senpai for only about 30 seconds, but those 30 seconds had seemed to drag on into eternity.

Once again, Kame felt that same burning emotion beginning to come alight in his chest, that same emotion he had strived to suppress for three whole years at high school with Domot-senpai.

"Okay, calm down Kamenashi," Kame muttered to himself, "just forget, okay, forget. Think about something else… like Sasaki. Yeah… yeah, she's pretty hot…"

Kame rolled over, throwing his book aside, and he began to kick his legs around and run his hands through his hair. "O-okay, get a grip. You're a guy, guys like girls. YOU like girls. Yeah, girls. Heh… yeah… but fuck… that Akanishi guy had nice shoulders… I mean, hell Sasaki has a hot figure~!"

Jumping up from his bed, Kame ran around his room. "Let's think about something else. Yeah, like… let's take the trash out."

The thin young man ran around his room, bagging all the empty bentou boxes, beer cans, old magazines and discarded junk that had accumulated during the month he had inhabited his tiny room at the Waseda dormitory. As he picked up one of the magazine, he flicked through it, scouting out pictures of hot girls. But as usual, nothing jumped out at him. Kame threw the magazine into the bag in disgust.

After about ten minutes, Kame had filled the bag to the brim with junk, and was ready to take it down to the trash behind the dormitory. He made sure to grab his key, and to put on a lighter bomber jacket due to the chilly nature of Japanese nights, and exited his small room.

Naturally, as it was quite late at night, the corridor was completely deserted, though Kame could hear the occasional sound coming from some of the rooms he passed on his way to the elevator. "Of course, there must be students cramming… kinda like what I should be doing, huh?"

Finally coming to the elevator, Kame pressed the button to call it to the fourth floor. His mind was still racing with confused images of Akanishi-senpai and his not-quite-forgotten Domoto-senpai, and also racing with his confused feelings of guilt, and attempts to think about Sasaki in ways that didn't come naturally to the young man's mind.

A sudden chime brought Kame out of the confused maze of his mind, and he watched as the door to the elevator slowly opened. Once the door had completely opened, Kame dropped his bag of trash suddenly, the contents spilling all over the floor as he backed nervously away from the elevator door.

Because there was standing Akanishi Jin.

Kame's senpai had changed out of his casual clothing, and was now wearing an incredibly expensive black suit ("Is it Dolce and Gabbani? It really suits him." Kame thought in the back of his fear addled mind). He also appeared to be slightly drunk, as his eyes did not look very focused.

"Eeeeeeh~~?" Akanishi slurred, a slight smile forming on his lips. "Wassup?"

"A-anou?"

"Unnn… you look…"

Kame backed further into the wall as Akanishi walked right up to. The older man put his arm above Kame's head, and he leaned in to look into the frightened young man's eyes.

"You look… pretty cute~"

Kame gasped, but Akanishi was too quick. Without warning, he slammed his mouth down onto Kame's and kissed him. Kame tried to push Akanishi off, but soon began to almost melt into his senpai as he gave in completely to Akanishi's kiss.

Akanishi allowed his tongue to probe gently into Kame's mouth, as Kame closed his eyes and yielded himself even more. However, Akanishi pulled away.

"A-aa..?" Kame sighed.

Akanishi gave him a quick wink, and then staggered off down the corridor, in the direction of Kame's (and obviously his own) room.

Kame let himself collapse against the wall, his bag of trash completely forgotten. Why did he allow Akanishi to kiss him? After all, he liked girls, right? Right?

***

To be continued.

A/N: How was it? This was my first ever attempt at writing Akame fanfiction, so I hope you guys liked it! The next chapter will bring Kame and Jin closer together, as well as finally solve Kame's money problems~! Yay, and YamaP and Ryou will be in the next one, I promise~! Okay, later then! ~Twiggy-san

Firstly, I luffled the Jaejoong cameo xD

I liked the tone and pace you've set for yourself; it was angsty but not too angsty xD
I would like to suggest that when you do go over it and edit the few mistakes/spelling inconsistencies that you also eliminate the smiley; they are acceptable within an A/N but including them within the narrative itself brings down the quality of the story in the reader's eyes because they perceive the writer isn't being truly serious about their work.

Lastly, I look forward to YamaP if not Ryou ^__^

my sister and i both read it and here be the comments;
agree with phe; please remove the smiley, it's very distracting. We thought that since we didn't know who these people are a quick description somewhere could be nice, but that is kinda our problem not yours, just depends. Otherwise writing wise neither of us have any issues with it, and plot so far seems good. ^_^ looking forward to some more!

have to confess that this is the first english akame fanfic i have ever read=P
i think it is quite ok, but i do agree with phe on the smiley face, it just seems weird to see that in the middle of a novel....
um....and being a fan of news, i definately look forward to yamashita's part, but i would love it more if he isn't going to be with nishikido=P(in news, if i had to say a pair i like, it would be koyama and kato.....yamashita and tegoshi would be a maybe=P)
